Mariska Nurse

Mariska Nurse comes to AZ with 23 years experience in education. She started teaching in 1987 with the South Florida Education Department. In 1988 she moved back to St. Croix where she was employed by St. Dunstan’s school. There she taught Middle School Science and English. In 1993 with the closing of St. Dunstan’s, Ms. Nurse was immediately hired by St. Country Day School, now Good Hope Country Day School, until August of 2015. She began her teaching career there as the Middle School Science Teacher. She was promoted in 1998 to Director of College Guidance and Student Affairs. As the Director of College Guidance, Ms. Nurse developed the College Guidance program at the school assisting students into being accepted to some of the top Post-Secondary Schools across the nation and abroad.  Her last position with the GHCDS was as the Dean of Students. While at GHCDS, Ms. Nurse has done much of everything, from teaching fun classes like duct tape art, aerobics, Paranormal Science to starting organizations such as the National Junior Honor Society, GHCDS Ambassadors, and Students Against Destructive Decisions to organizing the school’s first Career Fair and Health Day. As an educator, she can boast that she has taught every grade level, kindergarten through 12th grade, something, whether fun or educational, at some point or time. She is the proud mom of 5 children, two who will be attending AZ Academy this year, Melchezidek in 10th grade and Malachi in 9th. She and her sons are very excited to be a part of the AZ family and can’t wait to start the “Fire Burning Within.”
